MassPike
Massachusetts’ Turnpike Project Update Mr. Michael Mazeika, current Cedar Lake Association’s Treasurer, has taken on the role of Association’s contact with the Massachusetts Turnpike Project. Following is his update:

  • Spillway repair (discussion 6/30/2006) consultant to be hired by Pike by end of July. CLA will be a priority. I need to forward pictures of any contamination in the North end of the lake to Mr. Rick McCullough (Director of Environmental Engineering) for his files. I have some pictures, but other input would be appreciated.
  • The Massachusetts Turnpike is getting pressure from other environmental organizations regarding storm water runoff. There are several “pilot test projects” (storm drain filtration systems) that I am pushing to have CLA as a primary test site. This is where the letter to our Congressman with multiple signatures will help .
  • I have asked to be put on mailing list this fall for Pike grant money that is available.
  • I consistently bring up the long term goal of having the Pike pay for the dredging of the North end of the lake.
  • He mailed me the site for a report on Massachusetts Year 2006 Integrated list of waters report (clean water act): http://www.mass.gov/dep/water/resources/tmdle.htm. I have pulled a copy and CLA is categorized as a 4c meaning we have water impact issues, but nothing has been done yet. Pages 1 - 34 and page 183 as the Massachusetts’ Turnpike Project Update rest are tables that do not apply. Sections that do apply, page 10 - 12, Nonpoint Source Program. Pages 20 - 24 describes the types of problems and categories that waterways were placed in.
